How does web2.0 change games
March 5, 2008Games have changed so much during these years. About 15 years ago, when I was still a little boy, the first video game I played with my friends was Tank Beat; 10 years ago, when I entered middle school, every boys in school likes to play Red Alert in weekend; Then lots of famous computer games come to our life, including CS and Warcraft 3, on which my friends and I can play from day to night. Now web2.0 has bought us new games and new ways to enjoy our life.
There are two kinds of Web2.0 game that I would like to introduce here. The first is Second Life, a very popular on-line game. Web2.0 encourages people to share what they have and work together, while Second Life does the same thing. In Second Life, you are born with nothing but the ability to create everything. You can build your own house, make your own clothes, or invite others to your own party. And you can even sell the stuffs created by yourself to earn Linden (money in this game that can be changed to US dollar as 300:1). Players in this game are like residents in a new world, a world in which everything can happen.
Another kind of Web2.0 game I want to introduce is yoyogames.com. Just like Youtube, this website collects flash games made by users. Until now, there are more than 13,000 games in this website. The best part of this website is that it provides people the tool to create their own flash game. It also provides introduction and samples of creating a small games. Just spending several minutes playing some flash games, you will find yourself in love with this website.
